This document describes how to install and configure the VMware Workstation Pro virtual machine solution on Windows, create and install a running Ubuntu virtual machine in VMware, and finally compile and install and use the Postgres database in the virtual machine. There are two mainstream virtual machine solutions under Windows: one is Oracle's VirtualBox, and the other is Broadcom's VMware Workstation Pro. The former is free and open source, while the latter is commercial and closed source. VMware Workstation Pro has higher performance, better graphics acceleration, advanced network function support, and commercial-grade stability. In 2024, Broadcom announced that VMware Workstation Pro is free for personal users, making VMware Workstation Pro the optimal virtual machine solution under Windows.
